From the outset of this project, it was decided to organise this repeater differently from the traditional "repeater group".
Experience with other groups I have been involved in has proven that it's often a very small number of people who actually make a repeater tick and it takes dedication, time, an awful lot of effort and of course money. But with so many 'officials'' involved with committees and the like, often the technical aspects and operational requirements get overlooked and lost in the political and point scoring fog that gets created. It is all too easy to loose sight of the whole point of the exercise and get caught up in something that gets blown out of all proportion!
So, with that in mind, I decided to run this group differently, reflecting the true spirit of Amateur Radio, I feel.
There will be the minimum number of 'officials' in this group, the minimum needed to ensure the proper accountability to the supporters.
Anyone who supported the repeater before it was on the air, in any way whatsoever, will always be acknowledged here on the website.
This is because the money they have donated or effort they have put in will not expire at the anniversary of their doing so but will, for as long as the repeater exists, be a part of it and will have helped to get it on the air and keep it there.
Now that FH is on the air, we're no longer offering the lifetime memberships but any donation of any size is always welcome, should you feel you wish to contribute to FH. I must stress however, that it is certainly not a requirement for you to donate to FH just because you use it! All those who donate will have their name and call sign published here on the web site to show their support for the repeater.
It remains to be seen whether this method will be a success or not - but I hope it will be!
So there you have it! The Peoples Repeater of Somerset! Or something :-)
